Muriel Ann Macleod

About

Muriel Ann Macleod has been commissioning, producing, directing and acting in theatre and film production for the past 25 years. Her work with Rural Nations in the Western Isles has focussed on developing projects in collaboration with local communities to reveal their unique stories and culture. Significant Professional theatre projects include Roghainn na Daione (Gaelic Language) with John Wright and Deeds not Words (2018) – the story of Hebridean suffrage. A specialist in outdoor and site specific performance her  work has a strong comedy base and often uses contemporary design, film projection and puppetry, her work on the Creative Europe funded Nomadic Carnivals for Change and the Eve Versus Lucy art film with international partners was an example of this. A graduate of Glasgow University, Bristol Old Vic and later Television puppetry training with Ultimate Animates in London Muriel Ann also worked as a development producer for over 8 years for the Highlands and Islands Theatre Network in Inverness where she developed the Northern Connections skills development exchange project with artists in rural Sweden.

Muriel Ann is also an established film Programmer, she has been curating the programme for the Hebrides International Film Festival for the last 7 years for Rural Nations in the Outer Hebrides. HIFF presents current global cinema on environmental issues and remote lives and communities.

Film making work includes comedy drama pilot Lostbost for MG Alba, Mira Mara MGAlba (TV puppet builds), Eve Versus Lucy Exhibition Art film, she is currently producing www.freumhan.org a new contemporary film archive of Gaelic speaking artists.

Muriel Ann has been working in Renfrewshire over the last few years  as  Creative Producer at Place Partnership Renfrewshire, Refractive and the Paisley Film & Media Space is one of the projects she has been developing, she is passionate about supporting artists and building creative partnerships. Raising awareness in environmental campaigning  and developing  green arts initiatives also forms a significant area of her work.
