Refractive supports and presents the work of artists who use film and digital technology in their work within Renfrewshire and the surrounding area.
We are passionate about film and digital technology as a creative tool and we want to support the film and digital artists in our area to create innovative and immersive arts experiences for communities to enjoy. We aim to bolster our creative industries and reveal the wealth of talent working in film and digital technology in Renfrewshire and surrounding areas.
Our Artists range from young people starting out in their careers to long established freelancers and internationally renowned artists.
We are passionate about encouraging film and digital artists to explore innovation, present their work in diverse contexts and for wide ranging audiences, recognizing the potential for contemporary film and digital art to support making a fairer society for everyone.
Refractive are currently working from our Creative Hub in the Witherspoon Building on Storie Street in Paisley (a University of the West of Scotland building). By 2025 we hope to have found a Paisley town centre location to present the new Paisley Film and Media Space as an innovative and boundary pushing exhibition space.
The narrative for the Paisley Film and Media space is to reimagine the digital future of Renfrewshire toward 2045, creating a new dialogue from the contemporary culture of the area. Promoting innovation, showcasing the work of diverse film makers and digital artists, celebrating Renfrewshire in film, digital art and online content.
Our work is supported with public funding from Place Partnership Renfrewshire (Creative Scotland and Renfrewshire Council through the Future Paisley programme) with help in kind from University of the West of Scotland and a range of grants and Trusts and Foundations, as well as private donations and commercial income generated through our workshop programmes, film screenings and Pop up exhibitions in Renfrewshire.
