Refractive Projectionist

 

Refractive is seeking a freelance Projectionist to work on a pilot film screening project in Renfrewshire venues and site specific locations.

 

Structure: 4 months part time freelance flexible basis.

Fees: Fee of  £180 per screening  x 16 events and some preparation fees as may be required. Travel and other Expenses paid.

Timescale: January 2024 – end April 2024

Location: Based at the Refractive Hub, Storie Street Paisley, and in various venues across Renfrewshire for the film screenings.

Role Description

To work as part of the Refractive team to deliver the pilot Refractive film screening programme across venues in Renfrewshire. Refractive aims to present 8 award winning feature films over the Spring 2024 supported by a short film programme from Renfrewshire makers. The programme will also include film makers masterclasses with visiting film makers attending when their film is screening to give Masterclasses and Q&As

  • The Projectionist will work with the Refractive Producers to deliver the Refractive Film Programme to enable diverse Renfrewshire film makers and digital artists to showcase their short films in local film screening settings alongside independent feature films from National makers.
  • To manage the delivery of the film programme in a variety of Renfrewshire venues (some may be site specific) working with local venue managers and promoters to ensure the professional delivery of the public screenings to the highest technical standard possible.
  • To work in collaboration with the venues and install the film projection kit as required for each event. Monitoring and supervising the screening for the duration of the event including monitoring sound levels and image quality for the audience. Delivering safe deinstallation of the equipment.
  • To deliver the Health and Safety requirements for the film screening events, completing the Risk Assessments for each event and ensuring the safe operation of the equipment and supervising the lay out of the venue.
  • To support with collecting audience monitoring and feedback on the films screened.  Including providing information to the public about live film screenings and answering their questions. Undertake all other duties required to ensure safe delivery of the Refractive film screenings.

Person Specification:

Education Qualification in Technical Theatre or Film,  and / or related equivalent industry experience of  film projection. Evidence of continuous professional development.

 

Relevant Experience The Projectionist should have at least two years of experience in public film screening, working on Film screening installation projects, Festivals or in cinemas.

A knowledge of industry standards of film presentation, venue licensing and technical provisions required.

 

Experience of Film screening in site specific settings.
Special Knowledge and skills A working knowledge of preparing Risk Assessments for diverse venues and locations.

Have a passion for and a knowledge of contemporary film and Digital Arts

Have an understanding and commitment to Environmental Creative Projects and their contribution to Climate Adaptation and Mitigation.
Personal Qualities  People focused, able to straddle grass roots film makers, venue management bodies and local audiences.

Able to engage and gain trust  from Film makers  and Community organisations.

Ability to maintain positive and productive working relationships with lots of partners and an excellent Team player.

Is resilient and highly motivated.

Capacity to work under pressure to meet deadlines and organisational priorities

An understanding of the Renfrewshire arts scene/community.
