Refractive is seeking a freelance Graphic Designer to work on an ad-hoc basis creating visuals (print and digital media) for Refractive’s events, workshops, and projects.
Structure: Ongoing commitment to the designer for an initial 6 month period, the requirement will average between 14 and 20hrs a month.
Fees: Artist Union rate fees at £34 per hr. (maximum Fee £4080 in 6 month period)
Timescale: end January 2024 – July 2024
Location: Based at the Refractive Hub, Storie Street Paisley, and Hybrid as may be required.

Role Description
We’re looking for a talented graphic designer who can take Refractive’s concepts and ideas and visualise them, in both print and digital media. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of current design software and be skilled in every step of the design process, from concept to final deliverable. Collaborating with Refractive’s board of trustees, associates and freelance workers, the graphic designer should be able to take written or spoken ideas and convert them into a design that suits, crafting out a brand identity for Refractive. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of graphic design and be able to find the right style and layout for every project.
- Discuss upcoming Refractive project and event plans with the team and come up with creative ideas to best promote and visually convey these.
- Continue building and developing a brand identity for Refractive through consistent brand image.
- Share rough drafts, presenting ideas to the team before final approval.
- Work towards project and event deadlines.
- To work within the Refractive marketing structures and with the part time Refractive Promoter to successfully create suitable graphics dependent on the projects needs.

| Education | Degree in a related Graphic Design subject and / or related equivalent industry experience of graphic design | Evidence of continuous professional development.

| Relevant Experience | The Graphic Designer should have at least 2 years experience in graphic design.
Current experience of creating graphics for social media and event marketing as well as other creative/arts organisation needs. Design skills and knowledge with exceptional creativity and innovation. |
Experience of Graphic Design for arts organisations and/or film and digital arts sector.
