Join Refractive and Johnstone Textile Space for a celebration of the iconic Twiggy in a new portrait directed by Sadie Frost at Johnstone Textile Space on Saturday 6th December, 6pm (doors from 5.45pm).

A bright and colourful look at the life of the iconic Twiggy, the 15-year-old from Neasden who exploded onto the London fashion scene in the 1960s. Her career has spanned decades inspiring creative style, music, fashion and talent across generations.

Animated fabric brings the story of a lingerie factory in Manchester to life. Silk, cotton and lace go under the camera, as the workers recount the history of Ella and Me, the UK garment manufacturing industry, and British family traditions of making. A specially composed soundtrack by Swedish composer Malin Bång, inspired by sounds of sewing machinery, evokes the ups and downs of the factory.
