Songs of Earth – documentary – biography – 12A
Dir. Margreth Olin
2023 – 1hr 30 mins – Norway – Language: Norwegian (with subtitles)
A majestic symphony for the big screen, Songs of Earth by award-winning director, Margreth Olin, was Norway’s 2023 submission for Best International Feature Oscar. Over four seasons, the filmmaker’s father is our guide. Bringing us through Norway’s most scenic valley, he grew up where generations have been living alongside nature to survive. The sounds of the earth harmonize together to make music in this breathtaking journey contemplating life, love, nature and his space in this world.
“A soaring documentary portrait… A remarkable, poetic meditation,
Songs of Earth weaves the smallness of human lifespan into the
grandness of the earth’s history, and does it all with unspeakable beauty.”
– Alissa, Vox
“I love that film… Incredible cinematography…
It’s a profound discussion of life and what’s important.”
– Barbara Goslwski, CIUT Radio
“Gorgeous footage… Often breathtaking cinematography… A stirring piece of
work that deserves (nay demands) to be seen on as big a screen as possible.”
– Dave Nusair, Reel Film Reviews
