Since Yesterday: The Untold Story of Scotland’s Girl Bands – music documentary – 15
Dir. Blair Young, Carla J Easton
2024 – 94 mins – Scotland, UK – Language: English
Ignored by the industry and deprived of the global success afforded to the male-dominated bands of the day, the film is a celebration of the women and the music of yesteryear, and a rallying cry to the female talent of tomorrow. The film takes a critical look at the barriers women have faced making music in the past, and still face today. It asks how we can inspire young women to make music, if those who do so are continuously erased from our cultural history. Written & narrated by award-nominated musician Carla J. Easton, this is a powerful global story told through a local lens.
“a fantastically fresh and engaging documentary about Scottish artists, Scottish art and the challenges faced by Scottish women in a male-dominated industry and sexist world”
– Paul Ridd, EIFF
“Energetic, lively and an impactful testament to these women’s boldness and perseverance”
– Marina Ashioti, Little White Lies
“Since Yesterday is a celebration of music, a celebration of women, and a fist-raising call for change. It’s an inspiring piece of filmmaking that demands to be seen by everyone, not just lovers of a good music documentary.”
- Christopher Sneddon, Snack Mag
