Trent Kim

About

Trent is a Glasgow-based, South Korean-born British artist (Lumia) and academic who predominantly works with lighting in the context of performance.

He is a full-time lecturer in New Media Art at the University of the West of Scotland, guest lectures at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and contributes to Vanishing Point (board director), Imitating the Dog (board director), and xCoAx (Science Committee Member). Also, currently, he is completing his PhD research project on the art of Lumia at the Royal College of Art in London.

Trent began his creative career as a theatre lighting designer and technician in 2003, and has worked with various venues and theatre companies selectively, including the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Royal Opera House, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Symposia, Fish & Game. Then he expanded his practice onto lighting art, and his artworks have been shown in South Korea (Busan Citizen’s Hall, Sasang Station, Busan Jin Station, B-Art Gallery), the UK (Art Department, Crownpoint Studios, Lighthouse, South Block, Old Hairdresser’s, Gaiety Theatre, Dyson Gallery), and the US (Yale University Art Gallery).
