Annette Whitelaw

About

Annette is a Production Designer and 3D Visualizers who has 30 years working in Television, Film, Theatre, and Exhibition and more recently in Heritage.

She trained at Glasgow School Art in Theatre Design. She continued her training at the BBC Scotland as an assistant Designer. She then went to STV she was quickly promoted to Production Designer. She mainly worked in Drama at first with some other design work in other department. Latter on she mainly worked on Political and Sports Shows. In addition she worked on Commercials, Corporates, Children’s, LE,  and Gaelic.

In addition to working with the main broadcasters in Scotland she has also worked with other broadcasters and independents that include Sky, Chanel 5, Discovery Channel, Setanta Sports, Tern Television, Mentorn Scotland, AVC Media Enterprises, Wark Clements Productions, Shuga Koated Productions, Adeline Films, Fairline Productions, Sobier TV, Mac TV, Scottish Ballet and the Edinburgh Music Theatre.

Throughout her professional career she embraced new digital technologies, incorporating them into practice including CAD, digitality designing most of her on set graphics and 3D modelling for visualization of her sets.

She returned to Glasgow School Art to study a Post graduate MSC in  3D Visualisation in International Heritage which she sees as an another form of set design that goes beyond Drama design as everything in the frame has to be backed by research.

The Visual Effects Society are advocating for Production Designers to come over into post production to continue designing their sets through to the CGI set extensions. This is the area that Annette is currently exploring.
