DESCRIPTION:Paisley People & Place Workshops in Social Documentary Photography\nDocumentary Photography with Kirsty Mackay\, a six week practical advanced skills photography course to boost your practice. Starting Wed 13th May 2026 at Refractive.\n\nIn this intensive short course you will take inspiration from documentary storytelling\, tune into your own voice and make a series of images. You will be supported through the process of photographing\, editing & presentation.\n\nWe will use Paisleytown centre and surrounding area as the subject and inspiration for our images. Reflecting local culture and its history.\n\nThe six workshops dates are as follows:-\n\n\nSession 1 Wed 13th May 7-9pm\nSession 2 Sat 23rd May 1-3pm\nSession 3 Wed 3rd June 7-9pm\nSession 4 Sat 13th June 1-3pm\nSession 5 Wed 24th June 7-9pm\nSession 6 Wed 8th July 7-9pm\n\nThe workshops will take place at Refractive at the Liberal Club\, 32 High Street\,  Paisley\n\nAbout Kirsty Mackay:\n\nKirsty Mackay is a Scottish documentary photographer and writer. Mackay’s research-led documentary practice highlights social issues surrounding gender\, class and discrimination. She has an MA in Documentary photography from University of South Wales\, Newport. Her latest book and exhibition project The Magic Money Tree\, is a collaborate document of the Cost-of-Living crisis. Working alongside and teaching photography to children and young people across the UK. The Magic Money Tree attaches individual’s experiences with the structural\, political\, and economic. It shows us what poverty looks like in the world’s 6th richest economy. As a working-class artist\, Kirsty’s own experiences allow her empathy\, connection and insight into the stories of the people she photographs\, whilst connecting these experiences to the political and economic power structures of the British class system.\n\n\nPraise for Mackay’s latest book The Magic Money Tree.‘Not only is the photography within it a masterclass in documentary work\, but through her practice\, Mackay gives voices and a platform to those who have been affected by the realities of the consequences of 14 years of social welfare decline.‘ Peter Dench\n \n\nhttps://www.kirstymackay.com\n Instagram :  kirstygmackay\n\n\n\nBilly\, scores 8 out of 10 on the Adverse Childhood Experiences questionnaire.
