DESCRIPTION:Artists Meet Ups\nThursday 19th March 2026.  7pm to 9.30pm at the Refractive Hub\, Witherspoon Building\, Storie Street\, Paisley PA12AR.\n\n\n\n\nJoin Kirsty Mackay – Social Documentary Photographer and Eugenia Kamozinova\, Documentary Film Maker as they present their work. \n\n\n\nAbout Kirsty Mackay: \nKirsty Mackay is a photographic artist\, educator\, activist and filmmaker. Her research-led documentary practice highlights social issues surrounding gender\, class and discrimination. Her latest book and exhibition project The Magic Money Tree\, is a collaborate document of the Cost-of-Living crisis. Working alongside and teaching photography to children and young people across the UK. The Magic Money Tree attaches individual’s experiences with the structural\, political\, and economic. It shows us what poverty looks like in the world’s 6th richest economy. As a working-class artist\, Kirsty’s own experiences allow her empathy\, connection and insight into the stories of the people she photographs\, whilst connecting these experiences to the political and economic power structures of the British class system. \n  \nAbout Eugenia Kamozinova: \nEugenia Kamozinova is a film-maker from Slovakia\, she has worked with ITV\, BBC\, and CBBC\, primarily in factual television and documentary filmmaking. DESCRIPTION:Join Refractive for an evening with Artist\, Animator and Director Daniel Gough as part of the Paisley Docs: Rebels and Innovators programme. The Artist Meet up will take place on Saturday 20th of December at the Refractive Hub\, 7-9.30pm.  \nWe are delighted to welcome Daniel Gough\, a talented Artist and Director\, to be the guest speaker at our next Artist Meet Up. Daniel will be chatting about his experience of using animation in documentary filmmaking\, and his experience of getting his first feature length documentary completed. The evening is part of the Paisley Docs: Rebels and Innovators programme\, and will be an opportunity to meet with other artists working in Renfrewshire\, and of course enjoy some light refreshments too! \nDaniel Gough is a Welsh born Artist & Director based in Edinburgh work specializes in creative\, deeply personal storytelling as a means to explore difficult and sensitive subjects. His first documentary short ‘The Waiting Room’ was picked up by Sonja Henrici creates and is now in active development as a hybrid animation/documentary feature film named ‘Night Gardener’ where a doctor’s son tries to put his father & his broken heart back together again by re-animating the strange but very real fairy tales he would tell him as a child. He is technical director at the creative-tech studio Ray Interactive\, as well as a founder-member of electro-rock group North Atlantic Oscillation and the improvised electronica duo Boardgame. DESCRIPTION:  \n\nExciting Guest at Our Next Artist Meet Up – Wilma Smith!\n  \nWe’re delighted to welcome Wilma Smith\, a brilliant writer\, director\, and stop motion animator originally from Coatbridge\, to our next Refractive meet-up. \nWilma began making films as a teenager and went on to study at Glasgow School of Art. She started on 16mm film before moving into digital\, co-directing several zero-budget features that screened internationally — including Four Eyes and My Life as a Bus Stop\, both nominated for the Michael Powell Award at Edinburgh International Film Festival. \nHer first commission came with The Review (2016) through the Scottish Documentary Institute’s Bridging the Gap scheme. During the pandemic\, she trained in stop motion at Aardman Academy\, and soon after created The Jubilee — a stunning blend of live action and stop motion\, supported by Screen Scotland and BFI Network. The Jubilee was nominated for the Thelma Schoonmaker Prize for Short Filmmaking Excellence at EIFF 2024. \nWilma is also a recent participant in the Netflix-funded Women in Film & TV Four Nations Mentoring Scheme 2025 and a mum of two daughters. \nJoin us on 6th June for an inspiring evening with Wilma at the Refractive Production Hub\, Paisley\, from 7–9:30PM. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday 6th June at 7pm for an evening of networking and the launch of our new Artist in Residence Programme with Jamie Wardrop at Refractive Production Hub. This event is free\, no booking is required\, please come along! Refreshments provided. \nAbout the Artist in Residence Programme:\nPaisley re – invented in digital art\, soundscape and projection. \nJune 2024 to March 2025 \n  \nJamie Wardrop will be based within the Refractive Collective at the Witherspoon Building\, Storie Street\, Paisley for the next 10 months. There he will establish an open studio where he will examine different methods of visual creation. \nWith an eye on the roots of the town and keen awareness of the need for radical imagination\, he will use the opportunity to breach the question of how we face up to the rapid changes in environment brought on by climate breakdown. \nRenfrewshire Film and Digital artists will be able to work with Jamie through various workshops and exploration sessions to develop an innovative projection mapping and sound experience exhibition planned for the town centre in March 2025. \nJamie Wardrop is a digital artist\, technologist and designer who has worked across the creative industries in Scotland and beyond over the past twenty years. With origins in projection mapping\, 3d art\, immersive experiences and film he is interested in how digital art can be used for direct expression and a deeper understanding of our place in a connected ecological whole.
